February is a busy month for the Health & Human Services Team at MusiCares. In addition to the nine free support groups they hold weekly — and four medical clinics running all month long — the team is also hosting a variety of virtual programs on timely topics from renter's rights to tax season.
Every program is free and open to all music community members interested in attending. Take a look at the list below to see what MusiCares has coming up this month.
February 2: Renter's Rights – Washington State
In 2021, MusiCares implemented a "Renter’s Rights" workshop series in response to the end of eviction moratoriums around the country. On Feb. 2, the series continues with a workshop on renter's rights in Washington State.
MusiCares, in partnership with the Tenants Union of Washington State, will present topics including eviction and the court process, document preparation and resources, and general rights for renters.

February 8: Tax Tips for Musicians and Music Creators
With April 18 fast approaching, tax season has officially arrived. MusiCares knows managing taxes and accounting can be particularly challenging for musicians and music creators, who often file as independent contractors with multiple unique income streams. That's why on Feb. 8, they're partnering with Keila Hill-Trawick, MBA, CPA & founder of Little Fish Accounting, for a "Tax Tips 101" workshop.
During the session, participants will receive practical advice on taxes and create plans to effectively manage their business or freelance finances.

February 15: Renter's Rights – Austin
On Feb. 15, MusiCares' hosts another "Renter's Rights" workshop — this time with the focus on Austin, Texas. In partnership with BASTA (the Building and Strengthening Tenant Action), MusiCares will provide participants with a better understanding of the eviction process and renter's rights for those in the Austin area. They'll also provide resources for document preparation and legal aid.

February 16: Talk Saves Lives
On Feb. 16, MusiCares will join the American Federation for Suicide Prevention for a workshop on suicide prevention. Suicide prevention is foundational to the work of the Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Team at MusiCares, who recently partnered with the Find Your Anchor Foundation for a separate suicide awareness campaign.
MusiCares looks forward to furthering the great work of the AFSP and hosting a workshop on a topic so crucial to the MusiCares' mission.
