Praises were sung by vocalists and members of the local music community who attended the Chapter's vocal health workshop. Collaborating with MusiCares, the educational seminar featured Dr. Susan Miller, a voice pathologist; Janice Chander-Eteme, a classical vocalist; Tom Pedersen, voice professor at Catholic University's Benjamin T. Rome School of Music; and Dr. Jack Williams, an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist).

The workshop was presented at George Washington University and the panelists provided advice and instruction on how to maximize vocal potential while minimizing vocal damage. Exploring the importance of understanding one’s voice as an instrument, and its continued need for fine tuning, this interactive session provided attendees with practical applications and specific exercises and techniques for optimum vocal health. Visual illustrations of healthy vocal folds compared to folds with polyps, cysts, tears and infections provided practical explanations of what causes vocal complications, and more importantly how to avoid such situations.

Special thanks to Dee Dee Acquisto, MusiCares Health and Human Services Director, who provided an overview of MusiCares, its benefits and application process.
